    1. Immune system, compromised skin maybe caused by a foreign substance such as pollen or artificial fragrances.

    2. Nervous system, sensitized or inflamed skin may be the result of the environment, chemicals or physical and emotional stress. Both immunogenic and neurogenic inflammation can yield the same redness, itching and swelling that result when the body is injured or irritated. In the end, it is the combination of genetic susceptibility, immune disruption, nerve activity and epidermal barrier function that contributes to skin sensitivity and inflammation.

    3. Excess exfoliation, exposure to soap and water, even psychological stress can compromise the skin's protective barrier, lowering tolerance against potential stressors resulting in sensitization and irritation.

    SENSITIVE SKIN

Whilst many people self-diagnose their skins as sensitive, a true sensitive skin condition is generally caused by a genetic predisposition. Someone who is truly sensitive is born with this condition. This skin is considered more delicate with less pigment, a thin epidermis and blood vessels close to the skin surface, hence the appearance of redness. Sensitive skin is often the result of a defect in the skin's protective outer layer, known as the epidermal lipid barrier layer. Sensitized skin is generally a reflection of one's environment, lifestyle and physiology.

    THE SIGNS:

Research shows that there two distinct types of aging. Aging caused by the genes we inherit is called intrinsic (internal) aging. The other type of aging is known as extrinsic (external) aging and is caused by environmental factors, such as exposure to the sun’s rays (photo damage).

    Intrinsic Aging
Intrinsic aging, also known as the natural aging process, is a continuous process that normally begins in our mid-20s. Within the skin, collagen production slows, and elastin, the substance that enables skin to snap back into place, has a bit less spring. Dead skin cells do not shed as quickly and turnover of new skin cells may decrease slightly. While these changes usually begin in our 20s, the signs of intrinsic aging are typically not visible for decades.

    DEHYDRATED SKIN

Surface dehydration is a crippling enemy of the skin affecting up to 98% of the populations in varying degrees, and is associated with problems as diverse as scaly, taut skin, superficial lines and premature aging.
Did you know dehydrated skin is more prone to signs of premature ageing?

Hyper pigmentation is a common, usually harmless condition in which patches of skin become darker in colour than the normal surrounding skin. This darkening occurs when an excess of melanin, the brown pigment that produces normal skin colour, forms deposits in the skin. Hyper pigmentation can affect the skin colour of people of any race.

    ACNE PRONE SKIN

It seems these days you’re never too young or never too old for that matter for pimples, breakout, blackheads and congestion. The culprit is often too much sebum (oil) in the skin which can be overproduced under the influence of fluctuating hormones. When sebum is mixed with dead cells different levels of clogging occur such as whiteheads, blackheads and congestion. Left untreated these conditions attract bacteria and can result in inflammation known as cystic acne. The key to clear skin is prevention of clogging and rebalancing sebum levels.

What does it mean to have oily skin? Having skin that feels waxy, allowing your fingers slide easily over the surface, especially on the forehead, nose and chin. The skin often has a shine to it indicating there is an excess oil flow. The pores of the skin are enlarged especially on the T-zone and may be congested with blackheads. Rebalancing oil production is the key, not too little and not too much, just right!
